Electronic Logging Devices Required

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has finalized The Rule on Electronic Logging Devices. In short, soon all documentation and file transfers will be required to be done electronically. Check out the link below to learn more about the FMCSA's initiation standards.

This means that customer data, driving times, engine hours, vehicle movement, miles driven and location information will be required to be logged electronically. Not only that but invoices, payments, and anything that can be kept in paper format will soon become electronic. This is a great technological advancement for the transportation industry but now the amount of cyber-crime targeted towards commercial trucking lines will increase.

If you transport expensive product, or have sensitive information about your customers in electronic format then it is at risk with-out the proper network security. IT solutions such as cloud security, complete network security and business continuity are things that you might want to look into. By implementing a safe network in your company you are setting yourself up for success when your company does make the switch over to ELDs.
