PaperWise launches interactive customer
training site, IgnitionWhile each installation PaperWise performs is different, training methods tend to stay the same. For years we have visited customer locations to conduct installs, all the while trying to fit as much product knowledge as possible into two one-hour training sessions. With minimal time to transfer information, only a certain amount of knowledge can be presented without completely overwhelming users. Realistically, there is only time to cover the basics and provide enough information for users to effectively complete their job functions using PaperWise.
For some time, the PaperWise team has considered possibilities for providing multifaceted training to users, asking questions such as how can we provide users with complete, in-depth information? How can we offer basic training as well as substantial product knowledge? While extensive help files for each application are available, they are not fully utilized, as users have difficulty pinpointing and navigating to the information they require. Upon realizing the complications users faced while accessing additional training, the issue was addressed and planning began. Training Specialist, Shannon Killingsworth, played a valuable role with the production of this customer tool. He will share with you the goals and objectives behind providing easy and effective training through Ignition.
"The first item of importance we came to agreement on was the tool should not replace onsite training, rather it should be utilized as a supplement. It was important we convey that, regardless of supplementary training available, PaperWise will always do as much training as possible in person. Another decision made was this particular training option should not require both parties to be in the same location. Additionally, training should engage users. One primary focus was to guarantee training was accessible at any time and based on repeatable processes; we wanted users to be able to stop or pause the training at any time and resume it whenever it fit their schedule. Another requirement was that it should be divided into sections so that users can skip through parts they know and complete sections at their own pace. In the end, our number one objective was to show users every step, in a real environment, without using screen shots or PowerPoint slides.
Once our key objectives were established, focus was turned to developing a solution. Through a collaborative internal effort, PaperWise Ignition was created. Ignition is a website dedicated to delivering accessible training to anyone with a myPaperWise account at anytime, from anywhere via Internet connection. To get users started, the home page contains a tutorial video that covers the use of Ignition in detail. The site contains end user courses that cover the entire suite of PaperWise applications, as well as courses geared towards administering systems. These courses are categorized in a course catalog, and each user has the ability to add courses to their own My Courses folders.
Most applications have two or more courses with sections that show how to use features or accomplish specific tasks within the application. The sections contain narrated video footage designed to present specific tasks in two distinct ways: visually and audibly. If the user requires demonstration, they can view the on screen video demo; however, if the user chooses, he or she can follow along with the narrative to apply or practice the task immediately. The idea is to present information with a lot of depth, but still make it very easy to understand and follow. This video training mimics the onsite experience with one exception; video options allow you to pause, skip, stop, and resume later. For enhanced benefit, some courses include a quiz, granting users the ability to see if the information they received was completely absorbed.
Ignition is a new project for PaperWise, and we want user feedback to help direct future initiatives. While we believe we have a good start, it is an ongoing project, and gradually users can expect to see the site and course library continue to grow. Ignition is now available to customers; simply visit myPaperwise.com and register. Once you have a login and password, click on the Training tab, and you will be directed to the Ignition site. When you visit Ignition, take note of the comments section located on the home page.
